Certain Spanish procedures are stricter by law. The Registro Civil recording a foreign birth, marriage or divorce, extranjería offices handling NIE or residency matters, and homologación of foreign academic degrees, generally require a traducción jurada from a traductor-a jurado registered with the Spanish Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores. If your document is headed there, we'll tell you plainly rather than sell a bureau-stamped translation the office may not accept.

Spain is a party to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. A public document issued in another convention country — a foreign birth or marriage certificate, for example — may need an apostille from the competent authority in the issuing country before Spanish institutions treat it as authentic. The apostille legalises the original or an official copy; it does not replace translation, and PRAVIS does not issue apostilles.
As general guidance, the apostille is usually obtained first, and the document — including the apostille certificate — is translated afterwards. Exact requirements vary by document type and by the Spanish office involved, so confirm the specific requirement with the receiving institution before submitting anything.
